we didn't have the plastic rod, just a piece of fishing string with a toy mouse. Worked a little, but pretty much no interest. UNTIL, we turned the thing around, holding the mouse and dragging the string through the room. Whammo, 6.5 kilos of tomcat flying through the house. He likes strings :-)
