seems older and more cold - more (is ruthless the word?) - it's hard to describe. The Time War has burnt away some of his more idealistic qualities, but despite all that, he's still striving to do the right thing. "Family of Blood" was a little unusual, and I think that quality strengthened the series as a whole - Doctor Who is never predictable, and it was good to have an oddball episode to remind us of that. The story itself seemed to me to be more about WW1 and the nature of humanity. I liked it, but I'm going to have to watch it again before I reach a final analysis.
