I heard a series of lectures given by a Jesuit Priest (don't recall his name) who argued that all of the stories of Jesus's miracles in the Bible did not actually happen but were instead a form of literary foreshadowing to get the readers ready for the only miracle that actually happened, the Resurrection.

I'm not sure I bought his argument, but it points out what you are saying. The important fact for Christians is that Jesus came back from the dead. Without that, there is no Christianity.
