we'd actually like to use a crucifix but they were too hard to make "back in the days"..
(Not saying it couldn't be done or that they never did it, but it would be lots and lots more easy to make only the cross..)
Because if you think about it; old curches and such often hace crucifixes instead of the usual cross.
It's much easier to create a cross than a crucifix.
The symbolism would be the same, as long as the wearer/user knows it to be the same..

Just my two cents..
