| Regarding this.
You can't make other people's choices for them. You can lead by example and you can start a dialogue. But that's it. Ultimately, each person chooses his own path.
Remember the story where the man who approached Jesus listed everything he had done, then asked, "what more must I do?"
Jesus told him to sell his posessions and follow Him, but the man refused. When he walked away, Jesus let him go. Even He didn't run after the man saying, "wait, you have to listen to me! I can't let you go knowing what fate you'll suffer." He gave the man the scoop, then let him make his own choice.
And that's the key. It's not about converting people. You can't convert someone else anymore than they can convert you. You can lead and you can teach, and others can follow and learn or not. But whichever they choose, the choice is theirs.
The other thing to remember is that what people choose should have no bearing on how you treat them. If people choose to follow another path, they are still people, and they are still God's children. They should be treated no differently. |
