I got a request to create a new DNS entry. by hadji2007-05-18 08:45:30
Ah, the joy... by jbhannah 2007-05-18 09:27:34
...of working under people who are infernally convinced that they know what needs to be done better than you do, and who refuse to let you fix it because of their own personal FUD towards someone who knows more about it than they could ever hope to understand.

Personal example: public school district. Their head "tech" couldn't even set things up right on THEIR end to get the router/switch THEY gave us to get us online using the instructions THEY again gave us--and the router/switch itself wasn't even set up right to work at the gigabit speeds that the classroom was ready for. And they wouldn't let my teacher-boss fix it himself, we had to wait two weeks for the tech to come back from vacation. My teacher had suggested and I had encouraged just dropping a router between his district-issued computer and its connection to the district network (his network is independent from the district's, we just leech their internetz), and using access lists to make a data "black hole" to get us online...Qwest pulled their line to us in September, so we were without internet for about eight months.
