Seconded, I always had my meetings by Classic_Jon 2007-05-18 07:05:44
about 30 minutes to an hour AFTER we all got there in the morning to allow coffee time and for everyone to have had time to organize.

Find out what meeting time works for *YOUR* group of programmers. If they are not morning people... have it later in the day. If they ARE morning people then have it first thing in the morning, after BAS time.

The *KEY* thing with programmers and meetings, as I am sure you know!!, is to not cause them any more interruption in thought than necessary. Don't give them time to get started programming on something and then have them stop for a meeting only to get programming again and have to stop for lunch. At that point you will have lost at least half a day and it will be counterproductive.

Find what works for YOUR group of programmers and go with it. Be open to suggestions individually but be careful of soliciting suggestions in an open meeting because it can run away from you and turn into a gripe session. Take suggestions by e-mail or individually and then present the good ones at the open meeting. That way you can keep with your time allotted for the meeting and keep control of what is happening. You are to be a facilitator to HELP them get their job done and part of that is to keep them on track and not distracted. :)
