SF (non-Military) Question of the Day! by Illiad2007-05-18 00:01:48
Complex environments by oldphart 2007-05-18 00:34:56
I think humans need complex and varied environments to thrive. Something more varied than what we are able to design. There are good reasons for a space habitat, but only after we have been able to prod the evolution of the initially designed environment so that we get diversity and resilience from many generations of evolution (of the environment, human evolution is much slower).
So - "short" term answer is planets, loooong term is space stations (orbiting something, not neccessarily Earth).
