To me the claim that there are 16 million cases pending for any given court is intuitively absurd.
I'd be surprised if there were that many cases waiting to be heard if you added up the numbers for every single court in the US (although with peoples habits of suing someone because they don't like their hair I wouldn't want to put any bets on it).

So since we had what I though was a obviously incorrect and off the top of his head statement from VivianC I though I would see if I could get him at actually admit that it was wrong.
I really didn't expect him to vanish and two other people to argue that the number could be correct.
When presented with numbers which are orders of magnitude below those claimed you add general statements about other numbers needing to be included which we don't know but don't give any numbers or even any definite areas which need to be counted.

Take a step back and think about it for a second. 16 million is a huge number. If that number had been claimed by Peace_Man would you have agreed that he may be correct or would you have laughed at him for making such an obviously wrong statement.

Hopefully you accept that in general supporting a point of view based not on its merits but purely upon who presented it is a very dangerous habit to fall into. Do you think that there may be a slight chance that you are doing exactly that in this case?

                                you're nitpicking the wrong point :P by subbywan2007-05-09 13:37:23
Then why the reluctance to admit that it's wrong? (n/t) by AndyA2007-05-09 14:21:40
                                What reluctance? by subbywan2007-05-09 14:34:38
I'm not arguing that 16 million is correct by DesertRat662007-05-09 13:45:57
