No more advanced public screenings in Canada by shminux 2007-05-09 13:14:13
at least not from Warner Bros. "...studio estimates that about 70 per cent of its films over the past 18 months have been camcorded illegally while showing in Canada." "Canada's copyright laws are too weak" "For example, severe penalties are only meted out by courts if there is proof the film is being pirated for illegal commercial distribution." -- as opposed to the open season on individual downloaders in the US? Of course, chances are Warner Bros exaggerate the situation just a little bit: "the numbers that the (movie) industry keeps pumping out... simply lack credibility", but guess what, a bill "to have anti-piracy provisions added to the Criminal Code" is about to be introduced soon, anyway.
