IP telephones - Any good? by hieraco2007-05-09 09:09:30

Maybe it's just the Cisco junk we have. by AndyA 2007-05-09 09:32:37
The user interface is a lousy design (e.g. soft keys at the bottom of the display so there is only space for about 6 letters of description while most of the display is unused).

The voice mail integration from the phone side is useless, it uses magic numbers rather than the soft keys on the phone.

The access to the phone book is a joke (hit each number the correct number of times to get to the correct letter, make a guess when you've entered enough and let it give you a list of matches, real phone systems stopped working that way in the 90's)

They have just updated the software.
Now someone other than the person who started a conference can add people and you can combine two conferences. The update also notifies you and allows you to pull back people you have forwarded to a number that isn't answered.
Again, all stuff which PBX systems have been doing for years.

I should point out that prior to my current GPS job, other than a very brief aside in networking, I was designing small, high volume (1,000 lines, 50k calls per hour) phone systems.
