Anyone know the plans for the server? by AndyA 2007-05-09 08:19:45
Is it going to remain with austinpk? if so do we know why it's been unreliable recently?
Is it going to move to a new location? if so is anyone trying to organise that?

I have one suggestion - If the server is moved / rebuilt in any way can we please rationalise the maps. Get it down to the standard set and maybe one or two extras and try and keep it that way.

Having to download hundreds of megs of extra maps and never playing the same map often enough to learn it is a huge barrier to new players. In trying to keep all of the regulars happy we are discouraging other, non-regular FPS players, from joining. The people who want different maps know the game well enough to survive on public servers, the people who wouldn't feel comfortable on public systems are the ones we should be catering to.

Let's just find a set that we all like and stick with it.
If people feel they must play on other maps then there are always other servers they can visit for their fix, the UF server should be newbie friendly and right now it isn't due to the size of the download and the number of maps to learn.
