Multiculturalism vs. Woman's rights by SnArL2007-04-30 14:22:17

If the woman is being beaten and her emotional equilibrium is unbalanced by the abuse, and she suffers because of it and expresses a desire (either verbally or through behaviour) to be removed from the situation. If, body and mind, she recoils from the treatment she receives at the hand of this man then there's an open door right there.

The values of the body transcend the values of "culture." Period, if cultural values place people under constant, ever-increasing stress; then those values run contrary to life. A culture that drives people in such a way towards a breakdown, will inevitably fail. It is defunct.

What's more culture adapts, adjusts and changes both from internal and external influences. Culture also includes millions of ideals, beliefs, and practices. If Catholicism can give up a geocentric universe and the first three seconds of creation (even long after it's commonly accepted as fact or a strong theory in the latter case) then Islam can give up a man's right to discipline his wife with naked force and not lose what makes it a unique meme-etic entity.
