Human rights trump any cultural 'values', IMO.
And multiculturalism or no, the German laws should express exactly what is allowed and what is not - no matter what the 'culture' that sanctions the behaviour accepts. 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do' is very good advice. And immigrants, while free to follow their cultural background, still should learn what is and is not allowed, even within a family.
Multiculturalism means to accept other cultures - but human rights cannot be trumped by 'culture'. Given the mandate for separation of Church and State, I'm surprised to read that the judge based this opinion on reading the Koran. |
