| how come she was not charged with one? Let's just assume that this was a situation with a minor traffic violation until she is found guilty of a felony, OK? I would think that even Canadians are assumed to be innocent until proven guilty?
Since this is just a matter of a traffic violation and possible fine, how come she was held for over 11 hours despite her husband being ready and able to post a bond after three? That's eight hours of detention that really should not have happened.
It's beginning to look like the reaction in the US is to be 'safe' rather than sorry, and treat everybody that comes into contact with law enforcement like a potential terrorist until proven innocent. And what I really find alarming is that this is accepted by Americans! The police state is welcomed as a sign that (maybe) they can feel safe.
I'm happy I'm not planning on going down south for a visit any time soon. My wife is going this spring - I sincerely hope she doesn't accidentally get the attention of US law enforcement. It certainly doesn't seem to be up to the standards of decent and fair treatment that we are used to here in Canada. |
