that they might commonly see but to expect them to know all of them if they do not deal with them on a daily basis would be silly. Texas has changed their DL 3 times in the last 7 to 10 years. 2 of those were minor changes to prevent tampering.

I would not expect a Canadian Policeman to know what a valid Texas DL looked like and throw on top of that exceeding the posted speed limit by 20+ MPH and I can totaly see why they did what they did. A bit harsh and time consuming but, IMO, warranted.

Look at it this way: if it turns out that they had written a person with a fake Canadian passport a ticket and let them go, and they later on went and killed 15 people then everyone would be screaming about why the heck they didn't verify the passport to be valid? Better safe than sorry IMO.

My Policeman friends all say that they deal with bot legal and illegal immagrants all the time who have no intention of ever paying the fines if they are going to leave the country soon. I know of at least one person I know that got slammed for Failure to appear, not paying a fine and several other administrative fees the last time he came back into the country from India because of not paying a LARGE speeding ticket in Dallas.

You have to see both sides and also be reasonable about the chances of them knowing enough about that current passport to have an idea of what is correct and what isn't.
