- they will also use very little fuel when idling, and NO fuel at all when you brake with the engine.
Volkswagen made a car some years ago which automatically turns off the engine when you idle with the brake pedal pressed, and restarts when you step on the accellerator. It works quite well, but turned out to be more of a gimmick than a real fuel saving device. In cold weather it increases pollution because the catalytic converter will get too cold to work efficiently.
