one story posited that the first Kryptonians were stranded space-farers, basic humanoids whose descendants adapted to the harsh conditions of Krypton. Based on some of the longer space missions, I'd say less than a decade. But in the Golden Age, Superman built a super-gym to work out in, before the yellow sun began to provide his powers.
