Stupid math terminology question. by hadji2007-04-26 16:54:02
  Nope, Yup(ish) by Snate 2007-04-26 17:01:20
9 is a factor of 36
factor: one of 2 or more quantities that when multiplied together yield a given product

Hmmm, divisor is a little trickier.
divisor: the number by which a dividend is to be divided.
dividend: a number that is to be divided
In the case of 36/9, 9 is the divisor and 36 is the dividend.
In the case of 9/36, 36 is the divisor and 9 is the dividend.
in the case of 12/.1, .1 is the divisor and 12 is the dividend.
