It only seems to happen every so often (5-10% of the time). When only the characters between spaces were selected the same deletion would usually leave one space, sometimes none, but never two.

Then again the word doc I'm working in has a bunch of hidden text and stuff I've never seen before. Specifically when I show the ... (Double vertical line "P"... dunno what it's called) a whole bunch of text boxes show up with a double lined border. These boxes are full of notes (but they aren't comments) and don't print.
