When I first got to my school, every computer had a direct connection to the internet - a real IP address, everything. Then, we went behind a NAT. Then they added a web filter (that says it'll report you, but never has). Not that long ago, they tightened down on the network, so each dorm/apartment was on a seperate network. Then they imposed a 3GB/month download limit.
That was stupid - if they would re-open the (internal) network, students would go back to their inside-the-network Counterstrike (and other such) games, using less "outside" bandwidth. Not to mention it's a lot easier to keep track of things if someone is sharing movies via windows shares than if everyone is downloading 'em over their VPN to an outside computer... |
