Just after sept 11 the Local base was on ULTRA HIGH ALERT. Big concrete maze set up two bunkers built of sand bags facing the maze with a heavy duty machine gun in each. (dual barrel M2 the big .50 cal machine gun ) LOADED and unsafed. Civillian car in the maze back fires. The guard poos his pants and had his finger on the trigger. LUCKLY facing skyward. BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP 100+ rounds of ammo go shooting up into the night sky. They found rounds as far away as the Wal-mart parking lot and in the Wal-mart store. Holes in the roofs of base houseing. Neighborhood roofs Ect. The best near tragedy was in 1950 where an incompetent range officer launced a 105 howitzer in the slightly wrong direction where it landed in the middle of US RT 40. OR In the mid 70s-80s Where an MLRS was fired durring the 4th of July celebration and almost wiped out Edgewood. (rockets didn't guide correctly and went inland instead of out into the landing zone in the bay.)
