| If I don't tell the Universe what I need, it won't know, right? I have the nerve to put this out there because I was on the giving end of such an exchange a few years ago... the wife and I gave a car to a friend and were glad to be rid of it (the car, not the friend) w/o hassle and the friend was glad for the car. So...
Would any nice Ufie like to give me a car? Here's the deal. I'm this close (hold up fingers this close to each other) from achieving my life-long dream of working on a presidential campaign. After I found out that I'm losing my job, I realized that this is probably the only time I'll ever get where I can run off to the campaign trail for months at a time. I've carefully orchestrated my finances so that we can last a while before going broke, so I've got my window of opportunity.
I've been working the phones and finally got this close: one of the campaigns in Iowa would be glad to have me as a volunteer, but I need to bring a car. In the wide open spaces of Iowa, a volunteer w/o a car isn't a volunteer, he's an expense. They're happy to give me a place to stay and to feed me, but I really need that car.
Now, actually, I have a car, but it's an old clunker and I need to conserve it for when I come back to town and need to get a real job. I don't think the car would even survive the trip to Iowa, let alone campaigning all over Iowa and then back to Virginia.
So... if you've got a car that you think would survive a trip from where you are (I'd take a bus to you) to Iowa and then all over Iowa, gimme and email: this nickname at idocs dot com.
A few comments. Some might wonder why the campaign doesn't just supply me with a car. The answer (I assume, we didn't discuss it) is that they don't know anything about me except that I have no campaign experience. They have to be careful stewards of limited resources and I would do the same thing in their decision.
I'd rather not post here in this public place which campaign. You're welcome to ask by email. Some of you might be able to guess. I ask you to refrain from doing so here on the board.
We sure appreciate your support. (I'd better get used to saying that.) |
