If it's in a bag/case make sure it's not air tight so it can "breathe" otherwise you'll get rust. Second (with brother's permission) get a silicon impregnated gun cloth from the store and wipe the metal parts down every 3 to 6 months to prevent corrosion. Finally if there is a place you can lock it up, do so. If not, and you want to, I can point you to a few inexpensive, small gun cabinets that will deter your average intruder.
