Well of course I could have compiled a list of 10 games from which others can trace their roots, but I've listed the good ones I actually played - you did say personally influential was allowed ;).
I played 'Gorilla' but it's not nearly as much fun. Movement + Wind is a step up.
The orignal C&C allows you to make buildings directly in enemy bases, and destroy almost entire bases with no retalliation. Not great for playability once you discover that.
The first Baldurs Gate was good, but the second just is better. In any case the first is conceptually *very* similar to an AD&D game of the Atari/Omega generation (which was, frankly, boring, if a nice idea).
Street fighter: probably largely based on a 3-player Atari / Omega karate type game which was actually quite good. Don't remember the name of that.
SFX - can probably trace its roots to the "Surfer" type games that were popular in the 80s - it is essentially 'jump, press combination of keys'.
So, ya, based on older ones but more fun versions :-) |
