There were different colour schemes. You describe the "general flag" - red with black swastika on white ground. The SA troups wore brown shirts and pants, and had the flag from above on their arm. The SS troups wore black uniforms. The "regular army" uniforms were different. I can't swear but I think they were at least a bit similar to todays Bundeswehr's uniform colours.
