Knoppix can rebuild the partition table. by CALL-1982007-04-06 20:06:52
Okay. How does one do this? by Silverfire2007-04-06 20:14:10
You have to know what the the partition table.... by CALL-1982007-04-06 20:24:36
It was one single partition and a primary one by Silverfire2007-04-06 20:32:37
You are just rewriting the partition table to... by CALL-198 2007-04-06 20:51:15
...to reflect its old values. If it was only one primary partition then you would create a primary partition from the first block to the last block on the disk. You will have to set the partition type as an NTFS volume. Then write the partition table to the disk. Again, do not use M$'s fdisk as it tries to do more then just write to the partition table and this will not solve filesystem problems.

Your original post said that this is a problem with the partition info and not with the filesystem. If that is not the case then you will likely need to find a proprietary tool. NTFS is highly proprietary and any F/OSS must reverse engineer it to get it to work. That is not a process that happens without errors.

If this is a physical problem with the disk then take it to a data recovery center immediately. The more you try to do with the disk the more you take chances in doing more physical damage -- destroying any information that can be used to recover the files.
