and yes we're talking over a gig a data I want to preserve so file by file reconstruction is not really feasible.
CALL-198: Then you just re-write the partition table as you would normally using fdisk. After that you should be able to mount the partitions normally.
What do you mean by this? I just want to make sure I understand what needs to be done rather than assume that I know what you're talking about.
