The solar system simulator is _extremely nifty.
Direct Link for the curious/lazy.

Try:
Show me THE SOLAR SYSTEM as seen from ABOVE
(use default time, present)
I want a field of view of _5_degree(s)
I want the body to take up _100_ percent of the image width.

From this point of view, the Earth spins counterclockwise about its own axis, showing why Venus is seen after sunset at the moment and Mars before dawn. (Looking at the SUN form the EARTH, 5 DEG shows this too.)
It happens that I was out for a long walk last week late in the evening (back from a pub, if you must know) and was admiring what passes for the night sky in light polluted Vancouver.

Très nifty.
