Good Friday question by toysbfun2007-04-06 10:36:40
Utter rejection by Swiper 2007-04-06 16:23:46
Especially during his crucifiction there is a forced separation.
Jesus was crucified for the purpose of atoning us of our sins, therefore, he was representing sin, was himself become sin. Sin is intrinsically alien to God, who hates it. Its simply incompatible with God, therefore, there is effectively a rejection by God the Father of God the Son.
So you have quite a tragic situation where the Son, who is fully aware of his Father and up 'till now also of his father's thoughts, is suddenly completely separated and left on his own. If you read through the Gospels, you will find that Jesus was fully aware that this was coming to him, and often struggled with it. It was always going to be his decision: do it and die, or leave it and leave the world to die.
I think it is great that there is this element of free will, even in Jesus who was sent to the Earth for that single purpose.
