If Jesus were to "lie to get people to listen", then he would be an idiot or worse. After all, how many people have died so far in the name of those lies?
Also, if he were a liar, then he would be contradicting his own teachings, making him a poor teacher and a worse role model.
As for atheism - I think he is discussing that burning kind of atheism that denies God(s) to a degree that is a religion in itself. I've never understood that view - why can it be so important? Of course there are many other shades of atheism, from disinterest to verging on agnosticism. Any militant atheist will claim that his kind of atheism is the only definition, and everything else is just woolly thinking. |
