apps (mostly for windows environments) and the OS takes care of all of that for you. Granted most were web based, but a couple were resident on the system and we had several Lefties use them with no problems by going into the settings in windows and flipping the mouse there.

I am close to ambidexterous and use my left hand when my right hurts. Never had any problems.

Sounds to me like someone went out of their way to override the OS level mouse handleing and botched the job...
