First off, I had my browser taking up only 2/3 of the screen. Because the content box is fixed-width, it fell below the nav box leaving the entire visible area beside the nav box blank -- if I didn't know the content was below, I wouldn't go looking for it. I don't like the news column flow - the typical method on-line is the variable-width single column that resizes as you change the browser width. This method, while intuitive for newspaper reading, is bass-ackwards with respect to most other website content.
