(I have 18/40's on my Audi) are great for performance, but they don't mix well with winter. I got a second set of wheels (17s) with snow tires, and switch them seasonally. Works great and then the lower tread on the summer set aren't an exposure in the winter. I sympathize on the "not a road hazard" B7. I generally don't purchase "extra" protection of any kind. If they're pushing it, it's probably not a good deal for me.
