I learned to shoot when I was five. Learned a lot about gun safety. It's an important lesson if there are going to be guns in the house. Got my NRA Marksman Award at summer camp when I was 11.

Took my daughter shooting for the first time when she was five. I think I did a better job teaching her than my dad did me. She loved it. Almost bought her a .22 last year for Christmas but couldn't find one I liked. She'll be seven in two months. Maybe I find the right one then.

My son is now five. Maybe I'll teach him this fall. Not sure if he is ready yet. We'll see.

If there are guns in the house, the children need to be aware of the safety issues. I also taught them about the hot stove, electrical outlets and hot water. Guess I'm just funny that way.
