World Community Grid: Team UserFriendly.Org by Didactylos 2007-04-06 00:00:40

Team UserFriendly.Org

TEAM USERFRIENDLY.ORG HITS THE BIG TIME: it took nearly a year and a half, but I'm proud to announce Team UserFriendly.Org is ranked #10 at World Community Grid.

An awesome achievement by any standard - I think we are the only team to start small, and just keep growing. From the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU!

I don't know about you, but I have no plans for resting on our laurels. Where do we go from here? Up, up and away! UF has a readership numbered in the hundreds of thousands. If we all joined, then we could truly save the world.

Cancer? Global warming? World poverty? Famine? AIDS? If it's computable, we can solve it. Spread the word! And if you know any scientists cursing their lack of funding for supercomputer time.... you know where to send them.

MEMBER UPDATE: purely by chance we have topped one thousand current members at the same time as we reached #10. Sadly, the actual active member count is less than half of that. But if you signed up ages ago, and circumstances stopped you from crunching - please get back in touch. WCG is all about solving problems, and now OS X, FreeBSD and most 64bit platforms are supported in addition to Linux and Windows.

Our current target is to reach 500 active members. Remember, an active member is one who returned a result in the last seven days. Inactive members are shown greyed out on the team statistics page. If you need any assistance getting going again, please contact me.

The World Community Grid is a grid computing project whose mission "[...] is to create the world's largest public computing grid to tackle projects that benefit humanity." Their current projects are Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy, Genome Comparison, Help Defeat Cancer, FightAIDS@Home and Human Proteome Folding Phase 2.

New members: Certificates: Welcome to Team UserFriendly.Org, may your crunching be productive and trouble-free!

Last team we overtook: Gay US (Sorry guys. I'm sure you'll get back in the top 10 soon.)

This will be a daily post, if there are no objections. Please, come and help out. I really can't think of a better use for my spare CPU cycles, or yours either.
