Ok, serious question on how to handle a situation by Kickstart 2007-03-05 13:48:02
And when I ask this, I am seriously asking the best way to come out of the situation with everyone happy.

We moved here and my father's wife arranged with her sister to get us some help unloading from a couple of very awesome and decent LDS/Mormon young men. My gratitude to them for their help is huge.

As expected though not planned, they showed up at the front door today offering a 'lesson' in their faith, and an invite to their church. Neither Jen nor I share any appreciable part of what they believe in, though I'm open to learning a little only for knowledge sake. My stepmother's sister is a member of their church as well, though I don't believe my stepmother is, and my father is not.

I don't want to be rude to people that I genuinely appreciate and like. I don't want to join their (or any) church. I want to have acquaintance and perhaps even very low-level friendship with these folks.

How do I approach this? Ordinarily, if someone I had no connection to (this church, Jehovah's Witness, etc.) came to my house with intent of conversion or proselytizing, I'd just say 'no thanks' and end it there. Because of family and gratitude this situation is a little different.

Advice?
