The first year is the year the wife will need the most time with the kid, Unless you wife's income is significanly higher than yours, she should try to take a leave of absense for the first few months (she needs to sleep some time). If you want to do option 2, wait a year and take on-line courses as you can (make sure the credits transfer). It will be a shile before the kid has enough coordination to try to help you type if you hold him/her while at the computer.
