So I agreed to do some web work for my Dad, never a good idea, but he was pressuring me.
I gave him a date of when it would be done, and agreed to a price (which seemed a little stingy but hey it's family).
Turns out that there was far far more work then I thought there'd be, and ended up spending my entire weekend on getting it up and running.
Then when i went to post it, and realized no PHP no MySQL on there server, and the thing is designed that it needs exact links, so running it on my web server, you need to write in the URLs (was fine for me, but not navigatable at all as a subdomain).
I send his IT guy a mail saying what needs to be done, give him suggestions for other hosts, or tell them what plan they need to upgrade too.
and I leave it un uploaded. AT that (bout 9PM) exhausted i climb into bed.
Shortly after i climb into bed, i have him asking what the status is, so I tell him, it's done but I can't get it running tonight, and i've sent his manager details on what needs to be done.
20 minutes later (once again waking me up), he asks me why i sent it to his manager and why it's not running.
So I do my best in a half asleep state to explain that there is only so much that can be done, untill this is changed.
He reminds me that I told him it would be done. I apologize and tell him nothing I can do about it tonight, he then tells me "so it will work in the morning then", I explain once again that these changes need to be made, and it colud take 2 days depending on what choice they make (and try to expalin the dns concept)
He then says "So you didn't finish it, and you need 2 more days to finish it"
Gah, so I tell him the content is done, the pages are done, and that he can look at the main page, but its just going to link back. I figure he gets it.
Well after that, i go to bed and pass out almost instantly. Wake up this morning and talk to my mom, who asks me what happened last night. Then she tells me that at about midnight, he started ranting about how everyone takes advantage of him, and how he does so much for people and everyone lets him down, and that he can't depend on everyone. Then apparantly he made some self pitying / almost sucididal sounding comment and wento ut for a drive, leaving my mom to wonder wtf.
For startes I wasted almost my entire weekend finishing this up, he's probally only going to pay me 1/4 if that of the actuall price I would have charged anyone else, I still have to pay off my graphic designer at full price, and i ran into a limitation becuase they were using a crappy hosts, and I can't magically fix it... and I'm taking advantage?
UGH.
I'm so freaking sick of this drama. Isn't it so nice to know that your dad expects you to be lying just becuase he can't understand an explantion you say when your half asleep, and thinks so little of you that you that he expects everything you do to be part of some master deceitfull work.
