| Consider... |

The first year of the child will be almost all mom. Certainly the first six months if you plan on nursing. Beyond that, the concept of "nights" belonging to anyone but the infant is saved for the ultra-rich who pay people to raise their children.
That being said, night classes might not be an option if you are choosing to forgo working to allow $spouse to work. Why? Because if you are going to forgo working you had better get up with baby otherwise you fall into the category of deadbeat (<-- personal opinion).
My suggestion: stick with job, take classes if possible, and MAXIMIZE kid time. I am watching my youngest approach 3yrs and I already feel a loss in that my memories of infancy and early toddler-hood are fading. Soon they will no longer want to simply be held and cuddled (unless they are injured) and the certainly will not want to let you sit and stare at their wonderousness for long moments.
Okay.. that became a bit disjointed. Back to my original thought: the first year is pretty much all mom. If you are going to take a year off, start once baby starts sleeping through the night. That way, more focus can be turned to classes which should, theoretically, speed up degree attainment.
