Windows Validation - XP - FYI. by babywhizIT 2007-03-05 07:13:47
The computer in question has been validated since the day we purchased it. For some reason, we are now getting error messages that the install is not valid. The only changes made were 1. The DST patch was installed. 2. We installed that proggie that was listed here for updating the reg for DST for 2k and NT computers (we ran it on that box, to see if it did anything weird)

Event viewer: Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5730.11, faulting module legitcheckcontrol.dll, version 1.5.723.1, fault address 0x00039267

I did find some info on how to fix it: Open Internet Explorer, click "tools" then "manage add-ons" then find the Windows Genuine Advantage ActiveX control and put it as "ENABLE". If the setting is only allowed to be changed by administrators, then you must go to your C:\windows\system32 and DELETE the LegitCheckControl.dll file. Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/Validate.aspx?displaylang=e n and revalidate. That will reload the DLL file correctly. Reboot your computer after this.

I think the above will work, but will advise if it doesn't. Has anyone else ran across this?
