HTML vs CSS in e-mail presentation. Opinions? by glum_reaper 2007-03-05 05:18:44
Can anyone offer me arguments for or against CSS/HTML in creating an e-mail template, or advice from experience?

I've created a template for work, very simple really, but done in CSS because somehow it just feels more correct than using plain ol' HTML tables. It works fine in-house Outlook to Outlook, and I daresay will look fine on external Outlook and Thunderbird. Of course though webmail clients throw it all over the place.

I've noticed that a lot of corporate/marketing e-mail with layout is done simply through tables, is this an accepted practice for greatest compatibility of e-mail templates? To me it just seems a bit wrong to take out the CSS and use tables (after the length of time it took me to get out of the habit of using tables for everything when CSS came along!).

Any advice gratefully received :)
