just hand him/her a pallet jack and tell him/her to go to the basement and bring up the boxes of dead tree back ups and to start typing. as for recovery tools. sorry, I have one at home for recovering lost photos from a memory card, but I don't know how it would work on a network system for several GB of data. if you are not in a hurry I can get it to you in about 2.5 hours.
