No prizes for guessing who will have to attempt the data recovery. With a drive like that, I surreptitiously cut a few vital circuits with an NT Cutter (Xacto knife) in such a way that it is very difficult to see the sabotage. When the drive does not start up at all (after the cow-orker has spent a whole weekend struggling with it) you just tell them that "it obviously did not survive being moved - it was about to go anyway". NEXT time they'll believe me and not fish it out my recycle bin.
