Recent news reports incorrectly allege that Best Buy operates multiple Web sites used to deceive customers regarding our pricing. As a result of this news coverage, the Connecticut Attorney General is investigating this issue. Best Buy is cooperating fully in this inquiry.
BestBuy.com kiosks in U.S. stores reflect local store pricing, to alleviate customer confusion. Access to BestBuy.com <http://www.BestBuy.com> through the in-store (local) kiosk allows for easy research and expanded product offers, in the same way customers can research the site from home. The key difference is the kiosks show the same prices that are in the store. BestBuy.com (accessed outside of the stores) reflects national pricing that does not vary across markets. Industry-wide, it is standard for local (i.e., store) and national (i.e., BestBuy.com) pricing to differ; there are different rules and market pressures which cause the variation in pricing. And pricing variations can work both ways (online pricing can be higher or lower than store pricing).
In the best interest of customers, Best Buy decided years ago to offering price-matching of its Web site in the stores. Not all retailers do that. Best Buy is committed to doing a much better job of communicating to and training employees about BestBuy.com and in-store kiosks, and the Company's price-matching policies and procedures.
