And official names or common names?

I have a quick English version coded, with the names of EU member states as used on the sidebar of this. I would post a link, but I do not have sufficient bandwidth to support being ufied. If interested, well there is a description of an email address in my diary.

Looking at it, I suppose the correct thing is to use the official name of the country in its official language, where a single name exists, and the more popular official name where multiple ones exist. Or should it be "official primary name" when multiples exist? That is, is it Ireland or Éire? (Notably it is *not* Republic of Ireland, which is considered by the Irish government to be a description, not a name...)
