Do we need special "rules" for individuals here? That's a bad precedent, IMO. I don't want to see some point down the road where people target my posts to ignore because they're long and annoyingly boring. I get enough of that as it is. ;)
IMO, the only rule we need to consider is if a particular UFie's participation in a directed-topic thread (like OC) should be construed as intentionally attempting to offend or be offended.
The ancillary consideration is if a directed-topic thread lowers the threshhold for intentionally offering or taking offense. Is it easier (or should it be) to get modded for taking an antagonistic view in a thread llike OC?
One more consideration before we all dig out the tar and feathers for Peace_man (or any other UFies involved in the discussion today)...
A UF mod made an official call on the situation. The forum jury was officially invoked over the matter and, by the rules, Illiad will make whatever judgement on the situation that he sees fit. Because of several extenuating considerations in this instance...not the least of being the nature of the OC thread and how UFies, the mods, the forum jury, and Illiad should look at conflicts like the one we had here today. I am not a mod, nor am I Illiad, so I can't tell you how he will choose to handle all this. It's his call.
But I would like to humbly request that we not make today's situation worse by continuing to focus attention on any of the UFies who were involved. I know I'm not be comfortable checking onto the board and seeing myself featured in a subthread like this one. And I can guarantee that it would not make me any more willing to be cooperative or considerate to those who hold opinions different to my own.
All of this, of course, is just my two cents on the matter. I respectfully understand anyone who holds different views on the matter. |
