Take terrorism out of the discussion for a moment. by lheggland 2007-02-16 15:55:19
Lets just discuss this in respect to rampage killers.

Many schools have un-armed guards already. So the cost of changing to armed guard is minimal. The advantages are huge. In the case of the Red Lake shooting a unarmed guard sacrificed himself to give his partner and some kids time to escape.

"He saved my life. He held him back -- even if it was only five seconds -- but it allowed me and the other kids to get out," Grant said, calling him a hero.

Had those two guards been armed there would have been many fewer deaths that day. It would have still been sad that a disturbed young man died but that beats the heck out of what really happened. Maybe no one had to die, many would be killers will surrender when confronted by force before they harm anyone. We will never know. What we do know is nine more deaths can be attributed to "Gun Free" school laws.
