I have been a member of the Armed Forces for 17 years now. I joined the Navy because I am a sailor at heart (My family has been commercial fishing for generations.), to serve my country, and because my Dad and Uncles were in the Navy.

I also enlisted because I felt that I didn't have the discipline or money to get though collage on my own at the time.

I became an Electronics Technician because of the long term job skills and the fact that I enjoy electronics work.

Everyone I know has many reasons for why they joined. I can honestly say I don't know a single solder, sailor, or airman that joined for the money. You can do much better in the outside world if all you want is money.
