more than a million times a year in the US alone.
- What's the probablilty of her carrying the gun in a quick-draw holster? If she can't get it out in time, then there's exactly the same problem as with the mobile phone; it's useless. Even worse, what if she only manages to get it half out, or if she drops it? Free gun for the assailant? Not a position I'd like to be in.
She doesn't need to carry it in a quick draw holster. I and all of the women I have taught do not utilize such unsafe devices. You have less than one second from when they perceive a threat to when rounds are on target. I have even done this with a level II security holster (two separate actions required before the gun can be removed from the holster)
- What if her reflexes are faster than the assailant's? Or he doesn't see the gun? A black gun against a black jacket in a dark alley in the rain isn't exactly visible. "He isn't stopping. Pull the trigger. F4, f4, f4, he's screaming and there's blood pouring out of his chest."
More like "dang I know I can group them better than that." If you carry a gun you know that if you're not prepared to take a life with it, it's better left at home.
- In my opinion it is likely to contravene rules 2, 3, 4 AND precautions 1 and 2.
Sorry, wrong again. Rule 2-If my daughter chooses to carry a gun she has already made the choice to be responsible for killing a person. It's either that or willingly accept an assault.
Rule 3 - Yes. These reflexes can be developed in as little as 8 hours of practice. Something that is recommended occur at least once a month.
Rule 4 - That's why rule 4 exists and also why the admonition exists that every bullet you fire in self-defense has a lawyer attached to it. That's also why training and practice occur regularly.
Precaution 1: It is her responsibility to maintain control of her firearm at all times, period. This is one of the reasons I do not advocate purse carry. If you're not willing ot accept teh responsibility, then don't carry.
Precaution 2: Just because you go to a Pub or a Night Club does not mean you have to drink adult beverages. If you plan to drink bring a designated driver who will also serve in the role of designated shooter if the need arises.
In short in one weekend you can learn the skills needed to defend yourself with a firearm. As for an alarm thingy or mace... They are about as useful as a cell phone. |
